Day 16 - 18 (3, 4 and 5th August)

Well after all that activity in the mountains (last 7 day average on the step count was 112,000!), the pace has slowed down here in Comacchio, necessitated by the heat.  The average has been high 30’s and yesterday it was over 40 in the shade.

DAY 16 (Monday 3/8):  Our party has been joined by 3 new members today – Stuart, Tim and Dave (Minions)!  Gordon’s new pals were supposed to even up the boy/girl ratio but actually brought a crowd of girls to join us in the pool to play “lob the minion at Daddy”.
We spent another day at the camp’s pools – there are 3 here – a lagoon, an atoll and a large standard pool with a diving board; having fun with the Minions and diving off the board (well some of us that is!)
DAY 17:  (Tuesday 4/8) We ventured to the camp’s beach – a short trip on the landtrain.  The Adriatic was warm, teaming with fish and shallow to a max of shoulder height right out to the edge of a large rocky area.  Our Sportbrella came into its own, offering some very welcome shade from the scorching heat.

DAY 18:  (Wednesday 5/8) We spent the day in Comacchio – the nearest town, about a 10 minute drive away.  Very nice little place, with a small market and very few tourists, a huge cathedral and some beautiful Venetian style bridges – including the treponti which arches over the union of canals in the centre.

We took a boat trip in the afternoon around the lagoon.  It has long been the source of Italian salt obtained through evaporation and several still operational eel fisheries and became the permanent home of some 14,000 flamingoes in 1997.
